Caleb, b. 15 Feb. 1766 (see J. H. Beers, ed., Representative Men … of South Eastern Massachusetts (1912), vol. 3, p. 1217); d. 27 Feb. 1847, aet. 81; mar. 31 Jan. 1788 Experience Battles, dau. of Joshua4 & Experience (Cornish) (Sandwich Town Records). Of his 6 children, the first was named Bathsheba and the fifth George Crocker Gibbs, a fact which first attracted our attention to the probability that Bathsheba (Gibbs) Crocker was a childless, deceased sister of this Caleb Gibbs, for whom he named his daughter. Caleb married Experience Battles, daughter of Joshua Battles and Experience Cornish, on 31 Jan 1788.314
