LT. BARNABAS5 ELLIS (John,4 John,3 Lt. Mordecai,2 Lt. John1), baptized 28 July 1745 (Wareham Church Records), died in Claremont, N.H., 26 June 1838 (Otis Waite, History of Claremont, N.H.).
He married first, in Claremont, 9 May 1769, ELIZABETH SPENCER, died there 17 Sept. 1800; and secondly, there, 8 Nov. 1801, LUCY CARY.
According to Waite (op. cit.) Barnabas Ellis came to Claremont early in the spring of 1767 from Hebron, Conn. We are told that he served with Ethan Allen at Ticonderoga and Crown Point and was a Lieutenant under General Stark at the Battle of Bennington.
