JOHN5 ELLIS (John,4 John,3 Lt. Mordecai,2 Lt. John1) was born 25 Aug. 1735 and baptized 13 June 1736.
He married in Hebron, Conn., 11 Dec. 1760, ELIZABETH SAWYER (Hebron Town Records, vol. 2, p. 22), born 7 May 1741, daughter of John and Bathsheba (Mann) Sawyer and sister of the wife of Jabez5 Ellis.
He was probably born in Plymouth (Wareham) soon after his family moved there from Sandwich, although he was bap-tized with his two older siblings in the Sandwich Church. He was thirteen years old when his parents moved to Hebron. His father's will, dated 24 Aug. 1792, gave all Hebron land to the older son Jabez, but ordered the latter to pay £5. "to my son John Ellis," and he also gave to the latter a third of the wearing apparel.
