JABEZ5 ELLIS (John,4 John,3 Lt. Mordecat,2 Lt. John1), born 26 Feb. 1731/2, baptized 13 June 1736, died in Lenox 11 April 1831.
He married in Hebron, Conn., 14 Nov. 1754, MARY SAWYER, born 25 June 1737, daughter of John and Bathsheba (Mann) Sawyer.
He was only two years old when his parents moved from Sandwich to Plymouth (Wareham), and he was seventeen when the family moved to Hebron. There his father gave him land (Hebron Deeds, vol. 7, p. 538-9 et passim). The will, dated 24 Aug. 1792, of his father John4 Ellis of Hebron gives this eldest son, Jabez Ellis, all the lands there and makes him sole executor. Mrs. Sophia (Smith) Martin in the Mack Genealogy (1903), p. 346, states that he moved to Lenox; a search of Berkshire County deeds and probate records should complete this account.
