JOSHUA4 ELLIS (Manoah,3 Manoah,2 Lt. John1) was born about 1711.
He married (intention 29 July 1732) THANFUL NICKERSON (Harwich Vital Records, Mayflower Descendant, vol. 13, p. 67).
He is named in the will, dated 2 Dec. 1726, of his grandfather, Isaac Atkins; and his name appears in the list of petitioners for a separate Harwich precinct in 1746. Paine (op. cit.) says that his land is mentioned in the records of a town meeting in 1758.
In The Vineland Historical Magazine (1934), vol. 19, p. 120, there is published a genealogical account of Job B.8 Ellis. According to tradition in his family he was a descendant of Joshua Ellis whose son, Joseph Ellis, married "Jemimiah" Eldridge. As with most family traditions of this sort information concerning earlier generations must be used with caution, but in this instance the data is in harmony with the fragmentary source-references available to us (vide post):
