NATHANIEL4 ELLIS (John,3 Lt.Mordecai,2 Lt. John1), born 23 Dec. 1703, baptized 20 June 1708, died intestate, probably in Sandwich between 18 July 1731, when "Jonathan & Nathaniel Ellis, of Nathaniel Ellis & Mary his wife" were baptized in the Sandwich Church, and 7 July 1739, when his widow's intention of re-marriage was published.
He married 25 Dec. 1728 MARY4 FISH, born in Sandwich 28 Feb. 1707/8, daughter of Seth3 and Mary (Turner) Fish. The intention of marriage of "Mrs. Mary Ellis of Sandwich" to "Mr. Elisha Holmes" was published in Plymouth, 7 July 1739 (Plymouth Church Vital Records in Mayflower Descendant, vol. 18, p. 31; see also The American Genealogist, vol. 37, p. 150). Her sister, Abiah Fish, married Josiah4 Ellis (No. 34, below). Further evidence of the identity of Mary (Fish) (Ellis) Holmes is found in the distribution (15 April 1779) of her brother, Ambrose4 Fish, who died without issue: "To Mary Holmes, wife of Elisha Holmes one ninth part, viz. 5/8ths of what is called the home meadow, bounded by meadow of Thomas Smith Junr. & Enoch Tupper" (Barnstable County Probate, vol. 20, p. 407-411).
