King Manfred of Sicily
Other names for Manfred were Manfred von Hohenstaufen and Manfredo of Sicily. General Notes: Manfred (c. 1231-66), king of Sicily, where he was born a natural son of the Emperor Frederick II. He reigned from 1258 until his death. He was excommunicated (1259) by Pope Alexander IV, but with his Saracens overran Tuscany, and won the battle of Monte Aperto (1260).
