THOMAS5 ELLIS (John,4 Malachi,3 Lt. Matthias,2 Lt. John1), born 6 Dec. 1752 (Vital Records of Rochester), died 3 Dec. 1812 (ibid.).
He married 21 Nov. 1776 EUNICE REED, born about 1755, died 17 Feb. 1826 (ibid.).
His father conveyed to him by deed, dated 28 Aug. 1784, for £100. the major share of the homestead, including the dwelling house in Rochester. In the 1790 Census this Thomas Ellis is listed in Rochester with a family of 2 males over 16, 1 under 16 and 5 females. By a deed, dated 7 Oct. 1793, he bought for £20. from his brother John the latter's share of their father's estate (PLCD, vol. 77, p. 214-15). He and his brother exchanged land 5 Nov. 1793 (ibid., p. 214).
The will of "Thomas Ellis of Rochester," dated 11 Feb. 1812 and proved 22 Jan. 1813, gives: "unto my beloved wife Eunice ... to my daughter Mariah Bolles, $20. To my son William Ellis all my real estate ... stock ... he paying to his sisters [and he to be sole executor]. To my daughter Sarah Tripp $10. To my daughter Eunice Delano, $10. To my daughter Mary Ellis, $70. To my daughter Lydia Ellis, $70." Witnesses: Malachi Ellis, Hezekiah Tinkham, Reuben Tinkham, Silvanus Tripp, Nathaniel Hammond (Plymouth County Probates, vol. 44, p. 456).
