JOSHUA5 ELLIS (John,4 Malachi,3 Lt. Matthias,2 Lt. John1) was born about 1748.
He married (intention 23 March 1776) AZUBAH JACKSON "of Middleborough" (Vital Records of Rochester).
His father conveyed by deed of 28 Aug. 1784 for £70. "paid by my son Joshua Ellis of Rochester, yeoman," a portion of the father's homestead farm described as butting upon land of his son John Ellis and the Rochester-Dartmouth line, some 26 acres in all. The 1790 Census of Rochester lists this Joshua Ellis with a family of 1 male over 16, 3 under 16 and 3 females. Joshua Ellis by deed, 25 Nov. 1793, "in consideration of certain lands secured to me by Thomas Ellis" (his brother), conveyed to the latter the share of his father's homestead land described above (PLCD, vol. 79, p. 208). His wife, Azubah Ellis, released her dower rights in this property. This seems to have been in exchange for a similar deed, 5 Nov. 1793, by which Thomas Ellis and his wife Eunice released land to the subject Joshua Ellis (ibid., vol. 77, p. 214). On 10 March 1795 Joshua Ellis of Rochester, his wife Azubah releasing her dower rights, conveyed for £80. paid by Henry Smith of same, what was evidently all his Rochester property (ibid., p. 215). The family appear then to have moved elsewhere.
