General Notes:
JOHN5 ELLIS (John,4 Malachi,3 Lt. Matthias,2 Lt. John1) was born about 1746.
He married 16 Aug. 1770 ELINOR RANDALL (Vital Records of Rochester).
In a deed, dated 28 Aug. 1784, he is called "John Ellis of Rochester, yeoman," when his father conveyed to him a division of the latter's homestead farm. In the 1790 Census he is listed in Rochester, head of a family of 3 males over 16, 1 under 16 and 5 females. He called himself "John Ellis of Rochester, yeoman," when he conveyed his 30-acre farm there, including the buildings thereon, for £20. to his brother Thomas Ellis. It is described as bordering the New Bedford town line. His wife "Eliner Ellis" released her dower rights (PLCD, vol. 77, p. 214-15). Both these deeds were recorded 15 April 1795. It seems evident that the family left Rochester soon after disposing of the farm there, but we have found no further record. [Lt. John & Elizabeth (Freeman) Ellis of Sandwich, Mass by Lydia B.
