General Notes:
Cornelius3 Gibbs (Thomas,2 Thomas1), born about 1691, died 31 Dec. 1748 (Sandwich Town Records).
He married 9 Nov. 1716 Meribah3 Perry, daughter of Benjamin2 and Dinah (Swift) Perry, born 11 June 1695, died in Plympton 16 Nov. 1774 "in her 80th yr." (Vital Records of Plympton, Mass.; The Register, 114:98, April 1961).
This Cornelius Gibbs probably had left the Cape and settled in Plympton before the date of his father's will, 23 June 1725, in which he was given a bequest of £30 in money, his father's real estate going to the elder brother Thomas3 Gibbs. The birth records at Sandwich state that two of his children were born at Plympton, and a deed dated 17 May 1728 shows that "Cornelius Gibbs of Plympton, husbandman" sold for £70 to Ephraim Washburn, a tract of 60 acres there, plus a 1/4 share of cedar swamp (PLCD, 23:112).
He may then have returned to Sandwich where the record of his death appears, as shown above, but no record of the probate of his estate has come to light.
After his death his widow Meribah (Perry) Gibbs, evidently went to Easton where some of her brothers then were living. She is called "Merebah Gibes of Easton" when she married, secondly, there 9 Nov. 1757 William3 Churchill, son of William2 and Lydia (Bryant) Churchill of Plympton (Vital Records of Plympton, Mass.). He was born in Plympton 2 Aug. 1685, died there 25 Feb. 1760 aet. 74 yrs. (ibid.). His first wife Ruth Bryant, daughter of John Bryant, had died there 24 March 1757, in her 73rd year.
