General Notes:
CALEB5 PERRY (Caleb,4 Ezra,3 John,2 Ezra1), born 5 Sept. 1766, died in Sandwich, Mass., 3 April 1831. He married in Barnstable, Mass., the Rev. Oakes Shaw officiating, 3 June 1790, MERCY BLISH, born there 14 March 1762 (May. Des., 31:14), died there 23 Dec. 1839 (Sandwich town records, vol. 1, p. 160), daughter of Silas and Mercy (Tobey) Blish of Barnstabte. They are both buried in the old Bourne Cemetery.
Caleb Perry is named in his father's will. He built his house nearly opposite that of his father and tradition avers that his house was used as a stage stop between Monument and Falmouth, Mass. (Thomas G. Perry, Note Book). In 1810 he operated a grocery store in Monument. An 1823 deed of land to Jabez Phinney styles him a "gentleman." He is listed in the 1790 Census in Sandwich.
His will, dated in Sandwich 25 Aug. 1828, gives his "beloved wife Mercy" one-third of the real and one-fifth of the personal estate during widowhood; mentions "Thomas Avery who married my daughter Achsah Perry" and divides his estate between their three children, namely, Salathiel Henry Perry Avery, Caleb Perry Avery and Temperance Perry Avery. He names Benjamin Burgess his executor and gives $50 "for the support of the gospel among the heathen" (Barnstable County Probate). [Ezra Perry of Sandwich, Mass. (c. 1625-1689), By Lydia B. (Phinney) Brownson, of Buzzard's Bay, Mass., and Maclean W. McLean, of Pittsburgh, Pa., NEHGS 115 (1960)]
His house was said to be a stage stop between Monument, and Falmouth. Later, in 1810, he operated a grocery store in Monument. [PERRY.TXT]
