John4 Bourne (Nathan,3 Elisha,2 Richard1), born 31 July 1706, died in Sandwich 7 Oct. 1784.

He married there, 21 Nov. 1734, Deborah4 Dillingham, born 7 June 1716, died there 13 May 1797, daughter of Edward3 and Abigail (Nye) Dillingham.

The births of all but the eldest of the children of John and Deborah Bourne are to be found in the Sandwich Town Records, but the last digit of the years of birth of the youngest three has worn away. Fortunately the church records enable us to complete the dates.

This John4 Bourne inherited one-third of his father's land and was named co-executor under the will (q. v.).

The will, dated 8 Nov. 1782 and proved 8 Nov. 1784, of "John Bourn of Sandwich, weaver" gives to "my well beloved wife Deborah ... to my daughter Abigail Bourne, wife of Thomas Bourne, … to my son Edward Bourne all my Real Estate and all my personal estate at my wife's decease, provided that whereas the sd Edward Bourne is at present an Absentee and supposed to reside in some place under the Jurisdiction of the King of Great Britain, therefore if the sd Edward returns into the United States of America & is permitted to enjoy the rights and liberties of a citizen of the sd States, that then the above devise to him & his heirs & assigns, to be valid and good; but if the sd Edwaid do not return and abide in these States and be not permitted to enjoy sd rights and liberties … then the abovesaid devise to him be void and in that case I give and bequeath to my grandson John Bourne, son of my sd daughter Abigail Bourne.…" Witnessed by Thomas Bourne, Timothy Bourne, Abraham Williams (Barnstable County Probate, vol. 26, p. 51; vol. 27, p. 27).
