General Notes:
Jonathan4 bourne (Nathan,3 Elisha,2 Richard1), born 21 Jan. 1702/3, died in Sandwich 5 Nov. 1754.
He married first, in Harwich, 14 Oct. 1725, Hannah Dillingham (Harwich Vital Records, Mayflower Descendant, vol. 8, p. 160), born there in 1707, died there 18 June 1747, "aet. 41," daughter of John3 Dillingham; and secondly, 22 Dec. 1748, Susannah (----) Mendall, died before 23 May 1766, probably the widow of Moses3 Mendall of Dartmouth.
The first three children, "Maria, John & Elisha, of Jonathan & Hannah Bourne," were baptized together 9 Nov. 1735 in the Sandwich Church, as was the fourth child, Nathan, baptized 7 Dec. 1735. Neither the birth nor baptizm of the youngest daughter, Abigail, appears of record, but fortunately her existence is conclusively proved by the probate records.
The will, dated 1 Nov. and proved 18 Dec. 1754, of "Jonathan Bourne of Sandwich, yeoman," gives "to my dearly beloved Wife Susannah all the household utensils she brought with her," and "my lands in Barnstable I bought of her sister Sarah Howes" (also other land) … "provided she acquit her right of dower" in the real estate bequeathed "to my son Elisha Bourne … To my son Elisha Bourne [all the real property] provided he does for his sister Mariah Nye," as ordered in the will, and also provided that Mariah Nye "confirms the division & sale I made of lands in Harwich that came to ray children by their grandfather Dillingham's Will and bequeathed to their mother." He relates that he has given to this daughter Mariah Nye "household goods at her marriage ... to my daughter Abigail Bourne, two beds and bedding, to be paid when aged twenty one or at marriage, in case she confirms as Mariah is to do ... and to my son Elisha Bourne all that Estate which my father Nathan Bourne hath given and bequeathed to me in this Last Will & Testament ... he to be Executor" (Barnstable County Probate, vol. 9, p. 109). The inventory of "the Estate of Mrs. Susannah Bourne, late of Barnstable, widow, deceased," dated 23 May 1766, shows real property, including a pew in the Meeting House, amounting to £108. 6s. 9d. and plate, pewter, etc., at £9. 14s., etc. It was presented 1 July 1766 and confirmed 2 Oct. 1767 (ibid., vol. 13. p. 229-30, 305).
