SAMUEL4 ELLIS (Malachi,3 Lt. Matthias,2 Lt. John1) was born 11 Dec. 1719.
He married 12 June 1753 ZILPHA HAMMOND (Sandwich Town Records).
The will, dated 31 March 1762, of Malachi3 Ellis gives his son Samuel Ellis wearing apparel and £1. 6s. 8d., with the explanation that "The reason I give Samuell no more ... is that I have heretofore given him £53. 6s. 8d. in money and sundry household goods which I esteem to be his part of my estate."
Careful search for this Samuel Ellis in town, deed and probate records of Hebron, Conn., and Becket and Berkshire County, Mass., may complete the story. We believe that it was this Samuel and Zilpha Ellis whose daughter Rebecca Ellis was born in Hebron in 1755, and that the family moved to Becket where their other children's births are of record. We may have an incomplete list of their children.
