DIGBY COUNTY COURT DIGBY.DIGBY,NOVA SCOTIA,CANADA
DIED INTESTATE-----GEORGE R. EVERETT 1875
Testimony of James Everett 1796-1885 Husband of Mary Dennis Perry 1797-1892
I am 77 years old, born up on the Sessaboo River in grandfather's house. Grandfather,Grandmother and family settled in Sissaboo, now Weymouth, Digby,Nova Scotia.
They came from Poughkeepsie,Dutchess,NY. Grandfather,James Everett b.1723 was a Loyalist. Jeremiah Everett 1771-1870. James Everett 1780-1799. John Everett and John Knight, a boy the old folks took in, came with them from Poughkeepsie.
Jeremiah Everett was my father, John Everett was the father of the deceased. Nancy, Polly, Elizabeth, And Jane were daughters of my grandfather, they also came with them from Poughkeepsie.
Polly was a sister of my father. Grandfather and grandmother are dead. Polly Everett is dead.
I lived with my grandmother Altia 1736-1827 for 6 years, which was my age when I left her, And went up the Bay with my father. (which was called Everett Settlement, later named Plympton.) Where he kept a house of entertainment.
I visited my grandmother many times afterwards, boarded with her, and went to school while I was there.
Grandmother told me that John Everett married his cousin Polly, (my Aunt). They had 1 child, his name was John, after his father. This John was the father of the deceased, (George R. Everett.)
Grandmother said, the husband of Polly only lived about 2 years after their marriage, an that his son was only 1 year old.
I had many conversations with Aunt Polly, and called John Everett my Uncle. She said that wasn't my Uncle , but my Cousin. They were married in Poughkeepsie,Dutchess,NY.
Polly came to Nova Scotia as a widow, and married Hugh Germain 12 Dec.1787. They lived in Weymouth, and had, George,James,Thomas,Hugh, and David. George, James, and Thomas are dead. Hugh and David I don't know about.
George Germain married a Miss Guillison of Beaver River, and had a family. George Germain is one of them. I don't know where the other children are.
I have been to George Germain's house after he married Miss Guillison. George,Thomas,Hugh,James, and David were half brothers of the deceased (Geroge R. Everett)
My grandmother told me that Polly's first husband John, were the son of Jacob Everett, and that Jacob was a brother of my grandfather (James Everett the Loyalist.)
I learned all the facts about the pedigree of the Everett family from my grandparents, and Aunt Polly.
John Knight who came here with my grandparents, lived with my grandmother until she died. However 2
he was of no relation to the Everetts.
THEN UPON CROSS EXAMINATION
I was born up Sissoboo. My parents were married in Sissoboo.
I saw a family record in my brother's hands showing the ages of the family. A record kept by my sister Mrs.Fisher of St.John,NB.
Edward Everett my brother, read the record to me. I saw the record about 2 weeks ago.
The deceased, (Geroge R. Everett) was never married, and had no children. He was my 2nd. Cousin. Edward Everett is my only brother.
Signed James Everett
Polly Everett's son John Everett married Elizabeth Ried in 1815, and died in 1867. They had 2 known children, John, probably died as an infant, and George R. Everett, 1917-1875 the unmarried deceased in the aforesaid Probate Hearing. [Arthur Day GED artday3@juno.com]
