General Notes:
(IX) William (3), third son of William (2) Carpenter, born in 1576, was a carpenter by trade and resided in London, He rented tenements and gardens in Houndsditch. Being a Dissenter, he was driven to Whirwell to escape persecution, and took the opportunity to join his sons in emigrating to America. He was not contented on this side, however, and returned to England in the ship which brought him. [Family History of Central NY, Vol. III, Central New York Family Histories, pages 1317-21]
(X) William (4), son of William (3) Carpenter, was born in England about 1576, and was a resident of London. He sailed from Southampton for America in the ship "Bevis", landing in May, 1638, and returned to England in the same vessel, possibly having come to this country merely to help in the settlement here of his son and his family.
