Barnabas4 Gibbs (Barnabas,3 John,2 Thomas1), born 21 Oct. 1722, died after 4 March 1767.
He married 20 Jan. 1746 Sarah Blackford "of Charlestown" (Sandwich Town Records), born about 1725, died 15 Nov. 1802 aet. 77 (Sandwich 1st Church Records).
This Barnabas Gibbs was only about two years old when his father died, and it may be that his mother took him to live with her parents on Martha's Vineyard. We find no record of guardianship for him in minority in the Barnstable County probate records. He was resident at Sandwich at the time of his marriage, where he probably had inherited land. Although he had been baptized in the Sandwich Church, we find no record that he was a member, nor that he had any of his children baptized there. However, "Sarah, widow of Barnabas Gibbs" was admitted to full communion there 31 March 1801, less than two years before her death.
