General Notes:
SILAS4 PERRY (John,3 John,2 Ezra1), born 24 Nov. 1718, died intestate in Sandwich, Mass., prior to 2 Dec. 1760. He married there, 22 Nov. 1744, DEBORAH LANDERS, born there 13 Aug. 1722, died in Fairhaven, Mass., in 1807, daughter of John and Content (Nye) Landers of Sandwich.
Under his father's will, dated 29 July 1760, Silas4 Perry was given the parental home, loom shop, etc., and considerable real and personal estate. But Silas evidently died within a few weeks of his father for his uncle, Dea. Elijah Perry, was appointed administrator 2 Dec. 1760 "of the Estate of Silas Perry of Sandwich, deceased" (Barnstable County Probate, vol. 10, p. 71). His widow was appointed guardian 1 Dec. 1761 "to Lemuel Perry, John Perry, Silas Perry & Abigail Perry, sons and daughter of Silas Perry of Sandwich, deceased" (ibid., vol. 11, pp. 178-9). His mother's will, dated 1 April 1763, does not name her deceased son Silas and gives nothing to his heirs. But following the death of the widow Abigail (Damon) Perry and the consequent termination of her dower rights in her husband's real property, final distribution of John3 Perry's real estate was made 1 May 1764 by Moses Swift, Samuel Tobey, John Smith, Jr., John Bourn and Thomas Bourn, by which "the children or heirs of Silas Perry deceased" received two-thirds of all John Perry's lands (ibid., vol. 13, pp. 436-7).
The widow, Deborah (Landers) Perry, married secondly, in Sandwich, 5 Nov. 1767, Hix Jenne(y) of Dartmouth, Mass. (Sandwich town records, vol. 1, p. 132; Dartmouth Vital Records). Capt. Thomas C. Perry in his Note Book names this Silas Perry's wife as Deborah Landers and relates that after her second marriage to Hix Jenney she moved with her family to Dartmouth, where, in her last years, she lived with her son Lemuel Perry "who had her property after her death." He points out too that Hix Jenne actually lived not in Dartmouth, but in "Fair Haven at what is called head of Acushnet River." The will of Hix Jenne, dated in Dartmouth 7 Nov. 1767, names his wife Deborah and her son Lemuel Perry (Bristol County Probate, vol. 25, p. 248). The widow, called "Deborah Jenne of New Bedford," bought and sold land there in 1782, 1791, etc. (Bristol County Deeds, vol. 12, p. 596, etc.). Her own will was dated there 14 Sept 1805. She names her sons Lemuel Perry, John Perry, Silas Perry and her daughter Abigail Taber. Witnessed by Deborah James, Samuel Taber. Proved 5 May 1807 (Bristol County Probate, vol. 42, p. 519). Favoured in the will, John carried on his father’s weaving business, but died within weeks of his father. She remarried Hix Jenney, moved to Dartmouth, and lived with her son Lemuel. [PERRY.TXT]
