TENTH GENERATION

474. Sarah Landers was born about 1725 in Falmouth, Barnstable, MA. (21)(15) She died before 27 Jul 1749.(21) (15) Sarah4, b. ca. 1725; living 3 Sept. 1743 when she signed the marriage certificate of her sister Rose, but deceased before 27 July 1749, as proved by the will of Joseph2 Landers. We can find nothing to prove whether or not this Sarah Landers married. But, like her sister Rose, she had one child and died soon thereafter: 1. Lois Hiller, b. ca. 1743; d. after 13 May 1783. The will, 27 July 1749 of Joseph2 Landers, gives "To the granddaughter of my kinsman Amos Landers, and daughter of sd Amos’ late daughter Sarah, sixty pounds" (Barnstable County Probates, 8:393). By Court order, 23 July 1755, Amos Landers of Falmouth was advised of his appointment "to be guardian unto your grand daughter Louis [!] Hilliard a minor, with full power to take into your custody all and singular such part and portion of the estate as accrues to her in rt of Joseph Launder, deceased" until she shall arrive at full age. And, as we have seen, Amos Landers’ own will gives: "To my grand daughter Lois, the daughter of my daughter Sarah, the bed on which I lodge and bedding and the one half of my household stuff or indoor moveables" (ibid., 7:395, 21:104-5). She is still called Lois Hiller in John Landers’ accounting of the Amos Landers estate; the value of his bequests to her total £15.10s.5d. [Lydia B. (Phinney) Brownson and Maclean W. McLean, "Thomas1 Landers of Sandwich, Mass.," NEHGR 124:213]
