ELEVENTH GENERATION

1239. Nicholas Landers was born about 1757. He appeared on the census in 1800 in Falmouth, Barnstable, MA.⁽⁴⁷⁸⁾ He died after 14 Aug 1822. Nicholas5 Landers (Prince4, Amos3, Richard2, Thomas1), born about 1757, died, probably at Falmouth, after 14 Aug. 1822.

He married 27 Dec. 1780 Martha6 Hatch (Falmouth Town Records, 2:84), daughter of Obed5 and Ruth (Dexter) Hatch of Falmouth (Genealogy and History of the Hatch Family, compiled by the Hatch Genealogical Association (1925), 1:74), baptized in Rochester 14 Nov 1762, died 14 Aug 1822 (ibid., 2:123 - she was called wife, not widow, of Nicholas).

As we have noted, from internal evidence it seems reasonably certain that this man was a son of Prince4 Landers although direct proof has not been found. We believe it certain that Nicholas5 Landers was a grandson of Amos3 Landers. Perhaps in the unpublished Sandwich Friends meeting records covering Falmouth and the neighboring towns, or in the Rochester monthly meeting records (where Obed Hatch lived for a time) proof may be found.

The 1790 Census shows Nicholas Landers at Falmouth with a family of two males over 16 (of which one, we think, was a younger brother of Nicholas); two males under 16 and three females (of which one would seem to have been the young daughter, Susannah, and perhaps the other a younger sister of Nicholas). The 1800 Census for Falmouth shows Nicholas head of a household of one male 26-45, one male under 10, one female 26-45, one female 16-26 (Susannah), and three females under 10. [Lydia B. He was married to Martha Hatch (daughter of Obed Hatch and Ruth Dexter) on 27 Dec 1780 in Falmouth, Barnstable, MA.^{(753) (428)} Martha Hatch was born about 1762. She was baptized on 14 Nov 1762 in Rochester, Plymouth, MA.⁽⁷⁵⁴⁾ She died on 14 Aug 1822. ⁽⁷⁵⁵⁾ Nicholas Landers and Martha Hatch had the following children:
