TWELFTH GENERATION

2380. Susan Perry Kenyon was born on 2 Jun 1810 in Charlestown, Washington, RI. (25) She died on 11 Feb 1899 in Richmond, Washington, RI. (25) She was buried in Richmond, Washington, RI. (25)

REF: CRANDALL genealogy: 7th generation: ERROR!! Corrected by Earl P. CRANDALL in June 1991 issue of "R.I.ROOTS". She is the daughter of James KENYON of Charlestown and his second wife, Sarah (Sally) Stanton PERRY. Even her obituary has her mother listed incorrectly, a copy of which is in the possession of Earl P. Crandall.)

Her death record on p 49 of the Richmond death records also lists the wrong mother.

NOTE: the middle name of "Perry" which begins to run throughout the family with her daughter, Susan, may come from the maiden name of her mother, Sally Stanton PERRY. It was a common practice at this time to use the maiden name of a mother or grandmother as a middle name. It is used as a middle name in the line of the author right to this day!

ADDITIONAL NOTES FROM CRANDALL NOTES OF MILDRED (CRANDALL) FALVEY (1987):

The day of her funeral there was a big snowstorm and the coffin had to be drawn on a sled and put in a vault [at the Wood River Six Principle Baptist Church Cemetery in Wyoming (Richmond), R.I.] [Crandall homepage]

She was married to Stephen Franklin Crandall (son of Benjamin Crandall and Margaret (Peggy) Franklin) on 19 Feb 1826 in Charlestown, Washington, RI. Stephen Franklin Crandall was born on 30 Jan 1803 in New Shoreham, Newport, RI. (25) He died on 21 Mar 1877 in Richmond, Washington, RI. (25) He was buried in Richmond, Washington, RI. (25)

From E. Perry CRANDALL & Addie Rae (Bliven) CRANDALL 1938 Genealogy:
Stephen Franklin CRANDALL, fifth child of Benjamin and Margaret (Franklin) CRANDALL, was born in New Shoreham 30 Jan 1803, and with his parents, brother, and three sisters, came to Charlestown in 1807.

He was a journeyman boot- and shoe-maker by trade, and used to go from house to house making boots and shoes for the whole family.

One day he was working at the home of James KENYON in Cross's Mills, and needed a flat iron in his work. He said to the daughter, Susan Perry KENYON, "Susan, if you will bring me one, I will marry you!" Susan brought the flat iron.

They were married 19 Feb 1826 and lived in Cross's Mills on the small farm known as "Cool Springs House". They later moved to Carolina in the town of Richmond.

His religious faith was "hard-shelled Baptist", and Sunday mornings he would walk two or three miles to the church in Shannock rather than attend the Free Baptist Church near his home!

Returning from church services in the village 21 Mar 1877, he dropped dead from heart failure at his own gate! He is buried in Wood River Cemetery in Wyoming, R.I., in the township of Richmond.

REF: CRANDALL genealogy: 7th generation Mentioned in his uncle's (Stephen FRANKLIN's) will. (supra) NOTE: his birth is not recorded on Block Island, but his birth place is given on his death record on p 26 of Richmond death records. [Crandall homepage]
